What are some tips for using DeviantArt Draw?

Keyboard shortcuts

Using keyboard shortcuts in DeviantArt Draw makes drawing even more seamless. If you use a tablet that supports keyboard shortcuts, you can always set some in addition to the ones listed below.

(Keep in mind that Ctrl = Cmd and Shift = option for those on Mac.)

Using Draw on your tablet

Pressure sensitivity

To create lines and strokes with more variation in Draw, use a stylus on your tablet that supports pressure sensitivity.

Some artists prefer a firmer feel that requires more pressure to produce darker or thicker strokes, while others prefer a lighter touch that allows for a full range of marks with minimal pressure.

Many tablet styluses are set to be quite firm by default, requiring significant pressure to register a full stroke. To adjust how your pen feels in DeviantArt Draw:
  1. In Draw, open the File menu
  2. Select Pressure sensitivity
  3. Choose your setting: Soft, Medium, or Hard
For most tablet users, we recommend starting with the softest setting.

Navigator

When using Draw on a tablet, you may notice there’s no navigator panel like in the desktop version. This is because on tablets, navigation is done directly through touch gestures:
  • Use a pinch gesture to zoom in and out.
  • Use a two-finger drag to move around your canvas when zoomed in.
