What are mentions?
With a community as large as DeviantArt, the mentions features is a great way to interact with the community and make sure your messages are being seen!
Invite someone to the conversation:
Type @ followed by their username. You can also tag someone by adding their avatar or deviation to a text field such as comment or journal or status update.
Some great ways to use mentions:
- Mention a friend in a comment to show them a deviation you love!
- Mention a creator in a journal or status post to feature them!
What happens when you tag them:
Once you tag a user or one of their deviations, they will get a feedback notification alerting them that they have been mentioned somewhere on site. The user can then visit the page where they were mentioned to continue the conversation or even thank someone for sharing/featuring their work.
See where you're being mentioned:
Find all your mentions in the dedicated mention section in the notification center!
Honorable Mentions:
- Try not to mention too many people in your post to keep it personal.
- Copy/pasting a deviant's username as a URL from elsewhere on the site this will not send a mention notification.
- A mention notification is only sent if the mention happens at the original time of posting. If you post a comment/deviation without a mention then edit it to add the user's name, when you update the user will not be notified they were mentioned in the post.
