How do I deactivate or reactivate my DeviantArt account?

It is possible to deactivate your DeviantArt account if you so choose. However, before deactivating your account, please note the following:

  • Once you deactivate your account, you cannot reactivate it for 48 hours.
  • You can reactivate your account anywhere between 48 hours after you deactivated it and 21 days after you deactivated it.
  • If you do not reactivate your account within 21 days of deactivation, your account will be permanently deleted. This cannot be undone by you or by DeviantArt Customer Support.

If you are deactivating your account to free up an email address so you can use it for a different DeviantArt account, consider changing the account’s email address before (or instead of) deactivating the account, as otherwise the email address will only be freed up after the 21-day grace period for deactivation ends.

What happens when I deactivate my account?

  • You will still be able to log in within the 21-day grace period, but only to view previous purchase activity or to reactivate your account after the 48-hour blockout period.
  • You will not be able to comment on anything from the deactivated account.
  • Your Profile will be marked as deactivated, and it will not be viewable.
  • All of your deviations and posts will be hidden from public view, and they will be scheduled for deletion after 21 days if you do not reactivate.
  • Any comments you left in the past will still exist, but your username will have a line through it to show that your account has been deactivated.
  • Your username will not become available for someone else to use after you deactivate.

To deactivate your account:

  • Hover over your avatar in the site navigation bar (or tap, if on a mobile device) and select Settings from the menu that appears.
  • In the left column of the Account Settings page, click Deactivation.
  • On the Deactivation page, click “Yes, deactivate my account” and you'll be prompted to input your password, which will then send a verification email.
    • If you used a social login option to create your account, you won’t be prompted to enter a password.
  • Click the "Deactivate Account" link in the email you receive, then click "Yes, deactivate my account" once you're redirected to DeviantArt.
  • Confirm the reason for deactivation to finalize the process.

To reactivate your account before the 21-day grace period ends:

  • Log in to your deactivated account.
  • Hover over your avatar in the site navigation bar (or tap, if on a mobile device) and select Settings from the menu that appears.
  • In the left column of the Account Settings page, click Reactivation.
  • Enter and confirm your password, then click “Reactivate my Account.”
