Data Protection Regulations

DeviantArt is committed to providing all deviants with a safe and fun environment to create and grow. This commitment includes maintaining your privacy and security.

In recent years, countries around the world enacted data protection laws which intend to provide data subjects with more transparency about how their data is being used and stored.

Some examples:
  • GDPR: In Europe, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a legal framework that sets guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information from individuals who live in the European Union (EU).

  • CCPA: In the US, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) guarantees protection for Californian citizens regarding their personal data and applies to businesses that collect, use, or share consumer data.

  • LGPD: Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) is a regulation intended to strengthen and unify data protection for all Brazilian citizens. It aims to protect the fundamental right to privacy and the protection of personal data.

What are we doing to ensure data protection for our customers?

In accordance with applicable laws and regulations, DeviantArt has tools that allow deviants to:

  • Access Their Data: On request, deviants can see what data we have on file, what we’re using the data for, and with whom we are sharing the data.
  • Permanently Remove their Data: Deviants may review and permanently remove Personal Identifiable Information (“PII”) collected and processed by DeviantArt. A log of removal requests will be kept for security purposes.

Requesting personal data that isn’t accessible via your DeviantArt account

Alternatively, you can choose to download an archive of your data. This archive includes your information that you are unable to find in your DeviantArt account, including technical and other data information that is collected by DeviantArt.

Deleting your personal data

In accordance with applicable laws and regulations, deviants may request to have their PII permanently removed from their accounts, after which their accounts will be deleted.

Before beginning the removal process, your account must first be deactivated. Click here for instructions on how to deactivate your account and to review what occurs after your account is deactivated.

Removing data from your account is permanent and cannot be undone. Before initiating the process, we encourage you to review your data to see what will be removed. After completing this process, you can no longer use any of your DeviantArt services and DeviantArt will not be able to restore your account or retrieve your data in the future. If you contact DeviantArt Support in the future, the system will not recognize your account and Customer Support representatives will not be able to assist you with your deleted account.
While your data will be permanently removed from DeviantArt, search engines such as Google may still temporarily display your information until they update their own databases.
If you are within the deactivation grace period and need to stop the removal process, our Customer Support team may be able to help. However, take into consideration that response times may vary, so we encourage you to only initiate the process after you're certain you want to proceed. You may reactivate the account if Customer Support is able to stop the process, considering your account is within the deactivation grace period. If you are outside the deactivation grace period, you will not be able to reactivate your account once the removal process has begun.
