How do I create a tier?

So you're excited about DeviantArt Subscriptions and want to join in? Let's get started! You can create up to 10 tiers with different price points and content offerings, and it's pretty simple to start. You'll need a Core Membership to begin, so take a look at this page to find the best solution for you.

Quick Instructions

Creating your first tier:
  • Navigate to your profile.
  • Click "Subscriptions."
  • Click "Create a Tier."
  • Fill out the steps and add your flair!
    • See below for a more detailed view.
  • Peek at the preview on the side to make sure it's exactly what you want.
  • Click "Publish."
    • You can click "Save as Draft" if you want to return to it later! Saved tier drafts are located on your subscriptions page.
Create something for everyone!
With Subscriptions, you can create up to ten tiers to create a perfect package for everyone in your audience!
Creating additional tiers:
  • Navigate to your profile.
  • Click "Subscriptions."
  • Scroll to your "Subscription Tiers" section.
  • Click "+ New Tier" to prompt the creation of another tier.
Tiers are organized by pricing from lowest price to highest.
Accessing your saved drafts:
  • Navigate to your profile.
  • Click "Subscriptions."
  • Scroll to your "Subscription Tiers" section.
  • Locate the tier you want to continue working on. 
    • Saved Drafts will say "Draft" in the top corner of the tier.

Detailed View

You know how to create a tier, but maybe you're curious about each of the elements. Here's a closer look at each of the sections.

General information

  • Tier name: Tell your potential subscribers what it is they're buying! Be creative or keep it standard—whatever works for the subscription you're trying to build!
  • Tier price: Don't undersell yourself, but also keep in mind your benefits! Creating a range of tiers could be helpful for potential subscribers on a budget while still giving extraordinary benefits to higher paying subscribers. You have ten tiers to work with, and while you can keep it simple and create one tier for everyone, you have the flexibility of creating different avenues for different subscribers.
  • Cover image: Select a landscape-oriented image, and make sure it's reflective of you, your art, or what you're offering!
  • Publicly display the number of subscribers: Want a little more privacy? Uncheck the box and keep those secret stats to yourself!

Tell them what's inside

  • Description: Create the perfect picture of what's inside! This is your chance to woo potential subscribers into picking a tier, so make each word count. 
  • Benefits: Utilize each line, if you can, to be specific about what a subscriber will receive or have access to if they subscribe to the tier. With those limited characters, you can make a checklist of all the cool things would-be subscribers could receive if they pick that tier.
  • Add tags: Select up to 10 of the best tags to categorize what's inside of your tier to help your community find you!

Access settings

Take control of what your subscribers will receive. Use this setting to determine whether your subscribers will receive:

  • All previous content
  • Content starting one month back
    • For example, a deviant who subscribes February 15th will have access to content starting from January 15th.
  • New content starting from the day they subscribe

Mature content settings

Adjust your Mature content settings depending on your audience.

  • Safe for everyone: Your content will be appropriate for all ages.
  • Moderate: Deviants under 18 will see a warning but can still view and subscribe.
  • Strict: Only deviants over 18 can view and subscribe. Spicy!

Double-check your settings to make sure they are set for the appropriate audience. DeviantArt may review your tier and take administrative action if your Mature content settings are inadequate.

Thank you message

  • Message title: Craft a welcoming title for your new subscriber!
  • Message text: Express your gratitude and excitement to your new subscriber by giving them a thoughtful message. Keep it short but kind, and be yourself!
