Why did I receive an email about recovering my account?
Anyone can request a password reset email by putting in a valid username, whether the account is theirs or not. This doesn’t mean someone else has logged into your account, just that someone may have typed your username on the log in page, accidentally or otherwise.
If you’re worried someone may be attempting to access your account, you can change your password to something more secure at any time. Alternatively, you can temporarily disable password request emails if you’d prefer. To do so:
- Visit the Account Settings page from the menu under your avatar in the site navigation, then select “General” from the left column of that page.
- Scroll to the “Password Reset Emails” section, then click the checkbox next to "Turn off reset password emails for 60 days."
- Click "Save."
Once you save the change, a line of text will appear there telling you when the emails will automatically be re-enabled. This setting can be enabled or disabled at any time.
