Why are my deviations labeled as not suitable for all deviants?

The internet is ever-evolving, and the expectations put on social media platforms evolve over time as well. Though DeviantArt strives to enable and empower artists from all walks of life, DeviantArt must also strive for safety for all users, as it is an essential priority for any platform to maintain a healthy ecosystem where users encounter content that is relevant and appropriate for them.

Limits are set on what pages are displayed to logged-out visitors, users under the age of 18, and people using a Safe Browsing mode, in order to maintain safety for viewers coming to the platform. In these instances, pages with limits set on them likely abide by DeviantArt's Terms of Service; however, DeviantArt cannot guarantee a general audience will perceive them as being appropriate. Reasons for these limitations may include:

  • Improper content
    • External audiences may not want to be shown content or topics that, while acceptable on DeviantArt, don’t align with their interests.
  • Adult themes
    • For a variety of reasons, viewers may not want to see content displaying violence, sexual themes, or other topics geared toward adult viewers. In addition, DeviantArt cannot guarantee that external viewers are adults.
  • Negative imagery
    • A general audience may not want to be exposed to content depicting death, sadness, or other topics associated with negative emotions.
