What items are prohibited in Merch?

Merch listings are considered public deviations on DeviantArt, which means they're held to the same standard as public deviations. Content that would be prohibited as a public deviation — regardless of whether it's allowed in contexts elsewhere on the platform — cannot be listed as Merch.
DeviantArt also prohibits the listing and sale of any product that is illegal to offer, sell, or ship under applicable law.

Intellectual property
You can only sell Merch featuring art you own the rights to. This means you created it yourself, or you have explicit written permission from the copyright holder to sell it as a physical product.
Fan art, characters, logos, or designs belonging to third parties — including brands, studios, and other artists — cannot be listed without that permission.

Explicit and sensitive content
Merch listings follow the same rules as public deviations when it comes to mature and explicit content. Mature content is allowed with the appropriate Mature Content tag. Explicit content is not permitted, regardless of context.

The following are prohibited as Merch:
  • Pornographic or explicit content
  • Nonconsensual intimate material
  • Sexual depictions of real people or public figures
  • Content involving minors in any sexual or suggestive context


Other prohibited categories
  • Hate items and hate propaganda, defined as any content that promotes discrimination or violence against a person or group
  • Anything illegal to sell or ship under applicable law
