File Size Limitations

The following file size limits are applied when submitting to DeviantArt:
  • Images: 80MB
    • GIF file thumbnails are automatically generated, use the first frame as the preview image, and will display as either moving or static depending on file size, device, and image placement. Static previews will be marked with "GIF" for clarity.
  • Non-Images: 200MB (1GB for Core Members)
    • The compressed file types listed above are accepted, but you may be prompted to provide a preview image to be associated and displayed with the compressed file.
  • Video (for Core Members only): 1GB
    • Video files must be at least 10 seconds.
    • For Core and Core+ Members, videos can be up to 12 minutes in length. For Core Pro and Pro+ Members, there is no limit to video length.
    • The recommended resolution is 1920 x 1080. The first frame of the video will be used as the file’s preview image.
  • Text Files, Literature, and Journals: 64KB or 65,535 characters
    • The amount of characters in your file may be increased beyond what you’ve typed, based on the following:
      • Embedded images are broken down into strings of HTML text (like <img src="SUPERLONGURL" />). These character counts are included in the total.
      • Adding links, punctuation marks, special characters, or line breaks can add extra characters to your total number, ranging from one character to as many as eight characters each, depending on which you use.
