What do the various group member privilege settings mean?

Group member privileges are settings that determine what members and administrators of your groups are able to do. Assigning specific privileges to different administrators and members will ensure they can do what they need to without having access to things they shouldn’t.

Group member privileges can be edited from the Manage Members section of the Admin tab. Learn more about how to manage your group settings

There are different types of settings for different privileges, and the following is a list of the different settings you may see, and what those settings generally mean.

Management Settings

These setting options determine what members and administrators are able to do with regard to the group’s profile and the content submitted to it.

  • Have Full Control: This setting allows deviants at this privilege level to freely make changes to the relevant area of the group (e.g. Home or Gallery). Founders have full control over all group content by default.
  • Can Add/Edit/Delete Most Content: This setting gives deviants at this privilege level mostly free control to make changes, but there may be some elements that require input from other group administrators and/or the founder.
  • Can Edit Some Content: This setting gives deviants at this privilege level some control, but there will be elements that require input from other group administrators and/or the founder.
  • Can Only View: This setting ensures that deviants at this privilege level can only see the page in question, and cannot alter the content on that page.
  • Cannot View: This setting ensures that deviants at this privilege level cannot see or edit the page in question.

Each setting may have a different effect depending on what privilege level it is applied to; for example, “Have Full Control” does not necessarily give a Contributor-level deviant Founder-level access.

Approval Settings

These setting options determine whether or not deviants are able to submit to the group’s Gallery or Journal.

  • Are Automatically Approved: This setting gives deviants at this privilege level the ability to submit content without needing a vote to do so.
  • Are Subject to Vote: This setting allows deviants at this privilege level to submit content to the group, but other group administrators have to vote to accept or decline it.
  • Are Not Allowed: This setting does not allow deviants at this privilege level to submit content.

Invitation Settings

These settings determine what level a group administrator can invite another deviant to. You can choose between Founders, Co-Founders, Contributors, Moderators, and Members.

Submission Limits

Submission limit settings specifically let you determine how many times a deviant can submit content to your group’s Gallery.

Each deviant at a privilege level with a limit set is allowed to submit a maximum of up to 10 deviations per either a day, week, or month. How many of those 10 can go into specific folders or collections within that time period is up to you.

Exceptions

Exception settings allow you to add exceptions for specific Galleries or Profile sections for the group, so that deviants at a certain privilege level may have access to edit some things without having access to everything.

Set exceptions for when you want to specifically define what privilege levels can administrate, moderate, view, and supervise certain Galleries or sections. These options may vary depending on where you are applying the exception.
