How can I prevent dissatisfied subscribers?

Creating artwork and maintaining an audience can be difficult, and sometimes creators will have disappointed subscribers. Here are some tips to keep in mind as you're creating your first subscription tier!

Set expectations.

Use all of the subscription tools available to let subscribers know exactly what kind of content they will be receiving and how frequently. Make use of the tier descriptions and benefits when you're building your subscription options to convey things as clearly as possible.

Create content regularly.

Keeping your subscribers satisfied means delivering on the expectations you set. How often can you create and submit? A few times a week? Once a week? Make the choice based on your output and your life. For instance, if you're working a full time job, you may only be able to post once a week.

That's okay! As long as your subscribers know what to expect, posting regularly when they expect is much better than long periods of time with no posts.

Communicate.

All that said, take care of yourself. If you need to adjust your schedule and subscriber expectations, be open. Take a moment to make a status post or a journal to explain how things are going and if you need to adjust your schedule. Engaging with subscribers can be stressful, but many issues can be avoided if you're open and available.

If the changes you make to your subscription will be more permanent, update your tiers and communicate that as well.

What if that's not enough?

Subscribers have the ability to cancel their subscriptions if the content they are receiving isn't what they were expecting. Read more about subscription cancellations, and as always, DeviantArt Customer Support is available to answer any questions.
